Recently a friend had numerous reasons to give me why China is what it is, their strong-will, their attitude, their law and order and so said she “…you see why India is so prone to ‘name it and you have the problem here’ “
Yet another article in a newspaper daily did catch my attention for two Chinese proverbs. They really made me think and may be they are worth a thought…
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
Too many times that I had this discussion with yet another friend, what do we really do for any problem?! .
We see poverty in our country and we proudly fidget in our wallets for a coin. A good deed so to say, generous, selfless...whats wrong with this? But my dear, the fear is what is exactly wrong her. Fear that we might be on the other side someday...
Another one was even more provoking….
"It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness"Innumerous issues, extremely terror prone nation, that’s what the extremely talented powerful youth, you and me, belong to. What have we done really? 11/7….sad but nothing else, 26/11....nothin, Pune attacks..nothing again!! Another date, another place…do we have a plan? Forget plan, do we have our voter’s card ready!? I don’t say that we have not lit candles. We have, but only literally!!
I don’t claim to have a solution. Lets face it, surely doesn’t exist so simply. For whatever its worth, lets accept that it will take time.
We are a Democracy and China is a, well a very robustly surviving socialist country. But lets hope that we have much more than the way our government runs to flaunt about. We, the citizens, have to become more responsible….
